Destruction by ivy

This is one of the side branches of an olive tree that was probably torn from the tree a few years ago during a storm. On this tree, all the main branches were destroyed by ivy. Sometimes even several times. Typically, new olive tree shoots grow out of the tumbling, which will soon be taken back into possession by the ivy and destroyed again after a few years. The rhetorical question with Georg Wilhelm "Would he (the ivy) have any advantage at all from a strategy to damage the support tree?" Is not purposeful. Of course, the ivy has none of the destruction, but this results, but it has no disadvantage for the ivy to lose a strand. The tree is otherwise healthy and will soon thrive again to full glory.
