Another new rabbit hole in the Campo

Kaninchenbau

The rabbit hole looks like it has been committed, maybe by hares. I’ve already seen a hare in the upper Campo. A fox family can be heard further up. But I haven’t seen foxes yet, here you only see the plucking of a bird from time to time, but I have to pay attention to what the quill looks like to know whether it was a predator or a bird of prey.

Yellow wort (blackstonia perfoliata)

centauro giallo

The yellow wort is a gentian plant and is protected in many places. Here at Campo you don’t see him often, but you can find him here and there. The overgrown leaves and the fact that the plant closes its flowers in the afternoon are strange. The flower actually has eight leaves, but often nine like here or sometimes seven.

Centaury (Centaurium)

Tausendgüldenkraut

It would be nice if we were as rich as we have centaury in the Campo. Centaury belongs to the gentian family.
Not only does the herb look beautiful, it also serves as a healthy bitter tea. Ingredients of centaury are secoiridoids, phenol carboxylic acids, fla-vonoids and xanthones. Centaury activates the digestive juices, stimulates the appetite and aids digestion. The medicinal plant is a traditional herbal medicine.

An unexpected surprise!

Überraschung

How high is the fleabane (erigeron annuus)? 1m? really? Look below how high it can get with us. Over 1.8m! This plant in the picture grew on a slope, so it is significantly larger than on the plain. But even on the plain it is on average about 1.5m high.
Angi did most of the weeding, as Trudy showed us last year. Here is a little video on how to do that: https://youtu.be/CvjR_7J4ftQ

Cold what to do

In addition to the usual remedies such as throat spray, cough syrup and tablets for sore throat or fever, drinking tea and inhaling steam is an effective means of throat hygiene. Applied 1-4 times a day, the sore throat or dry cough disappears after a few days or a few weeks.
If you have a fever you should call your local hotline, doctor’s office, or emergency room during an epidemic.
How did I get rid of my dry cough?

Alternativer Text I have made a tea for inhalation:
Bring 2 cups of water to the boil in a saucepan
1 bag of cough tea (thyme, marshmallow, ribwort, Icelandic moss, liquorice)
1 sachet of chamomile tea
1 teaspoon honey
Cloves Olive leaves
the water boils
When the water boils, turn off the stove.
First stir in the honey and then add everything to the pot.
And immediately take it off the stove to inhale.
Hold your head over the pot
Hold your head over the pot and cover with a towel so that the steam does not escape in all directions. Approx. Breathe alternately through your nose and mouth for 10 minutes. I set the timer on the mobile. Attention keep the tea clean.
the tea has now drawn enough
After 10 minutes you can stop inhaling and the tea has now drawn enough. Now pour the tea into the cup and drink it slowly. There will no longer be two full cups because part of it has evaporated.

Back in Switzerland in the snowstorm

Schneegestöber am Gotthardnordportal

Spring has not yet arrived in Switzerland, but it will come soon. For now it’s still through the snowstorm. From one Covid-19 contaminated area to the next that is only developing. Hopefully this doesn’t get any worse.

No getting through, so again!

Zaunrübe

In Italy you can only cross regional borders with a pass. Even though I filled out the form, there was no getting through! I got exactly 15km and got stuck in a roadblock. It’s a bit like a war. Since the forms and rules change every few days, the police are not always up to date. So back to Brenzone and wait for a decision. In the afternoon the officer called that I can pass now. But it was too late for me and so I’m not leaving until tomorrow.
Use the time and dig up a few more turnips, the annoying “aliens” will keep us busy for years. Here is a huge thing that unfortunately broke off and will drive out again accordingly.

The work of the last few weeks

Campagne 2020

From a bird’s eye view it doesn’t look like much, but I cut over 100 trees to 6m and performed the usual pruning. The blue line is the plot boundary of the right part of the Campos, the red line is this year’s campaign. Now the first traps have to be hung up (around every 3rd tree at the end of March), then we will go home tomorrow until summer.

Margritli or daisies used to be considered sacred

Margritli

In spring, when the grass is not that high, the Margritli shine out of the mat. Margritli used to be considered holy and stood for innocence and purity. Even today, the girls like to make wreaths from the flowers and wear them on their heads.
Margritli is a popular herb plant and can be steamed briefly in olive oil over the salad. In general, the little flower can be used in many ways in the kitchen.

The clippings are burned

Schnittgut verbrennen

To reduce disease and vermin, the pruning is burned to branches as thick as a thumb. Thicker branches are processed into firewood and trunks into wood for tools. I hope that I will soon be able to compost the tree cuttings, but for that I need water so that the compost heap doesn’t dry out and die in the summer.

The grape hyacinth (muscari botryoides)

Kleine Traubenhyazinthe

The grape hyacinth is common in the campo. Although it is a neophyte, it is on the protected species list in some countries. The plant was brought from the Middle East to Central Europe around 1600 and was released out of the gardens. The flowers are usually solitary because they do not divide through the bulbs.

Beads of dew in the early morning

web

Wild boars were in the campo and loosened the earth around a few trees. The people here hunt the pigs because they think the damage is too great. I also like wild boar, but I am happy to let them go, because they find grubs and eat, which reduces the pests.

Here in a churned up hole a spider has already stretched its artistic web that is waiting for prey.

Aliens in the campo

Aliens

No, no aliens, but the poisonous bryony grows out of the ground. Here in the formerly overgrown part, the bryams could grow for decades and have formed roots with a diameter of 10cm and more. Gradually I dig them up and reduce them to an acceptable level.

Georgios Campo

Giorgios Campo

In the past, the parcels were combined and divided into smaller and smaller parcels by dividing the inheritance. Now that it’s in one hand again, I’ve set up my lunch table here, with a wonderful view over the lake, but also a view of the Campo, as in the picture, pleases the eye!
